“Don’t call it a comeback…
…I’ve been here for years.” Still one of my favorites by LL Cool J. It fires me up and makes me feel like I could bust through walls. 😉
This is my first blog post in nearly 3 years. I had no idea it had been that long. I’ve been doing some deep mind, heart, and soul healing. Since 2019, I have experienced a series of disruptive changes (and the pandemic wasn’t even at the top of the list!). Some of them were life-altering in devastating ways. When I went to write this, I did not realize how disengaged from parts of my life I had become. It is amazing how the healing process works for people. I needed to disengage to heal, learn, and reignite. My healing process has brought a lot of tears, but it has also been insightful and full of knowledge and growth, personally and professionally.
One key learning through this lived experience is that we cannot separate the personal from the professional. What does that mean? The pandemic was tough for everyone, personally and professionally. The disruption, the uncertainty, the fear and chaos that was created exposed the cracks in EVERYTHING. Personally, we had to change routines and habits. Professionally, we had to figure out how to keep our businesses going. Some were agile strong and able to weather that storm. Many others, not so much. Our supply chains got all stacked up and are still being repaired (and improving too). Socially, we had to figure out how to make sure our kids kept learning in uncertain and chaotic environments. The fear, concern, anger and every other emotion people had with this massive disruption was real and intense. We, as a society, did not handle this disruption very well. I believe it was partially caused by the fact that we separate the person from the profession. “Leave your crap at the door.” Remember that old cliché? It still happens and far too often.
We’ve all been healing, improving, and still maneuvering this massive disruption. We are going Mach speed, dealing with high levels of uncertainty. Current socio-political environments are creating even more uncertainty and chaos that has to be dealt with and addressed. Yet, we have little to no access to mental health care (hell, even physical healthcare is becoming brutal to access). Our professional spaces still focus only on finances to determine their success. What about your processes? What about your customers? What about your PEOPLE? (Balanced Scorecard) We cannot separate the personal from the professional because that fear people feel, it’s real and it IS personal.
Now, I’m not saying we are all allowed to go around and treat people like shit because we aren’t ok. I am saying, we need to hold a lot more grace and compassion for people. What can we do to help each other personally and professionally? As I reengage, I am building my business to find ways to help people and organizations, personally and professionally. I’ll be sharing new research, new experiences, and new tools. I’ll continue my own healing process so that I can be the best coach, mentor, and advisor I can be.
So, it’s not a comeback, I’ve been here for years. It IS time to engage with and share this new knowledge, research, and experience. It is time to reengage in helping individuals, leaders, and organizations to evolve to their very best. Let me help you maneuver that uncertainty and fear, personally and professionally. I’m looking forward to talking soon.
“You cannot separate the person from society or society from the person. In our world of business, business has its own subculture within the greater society, affected by, and affecting individuals immensely.” J. Hanson
